There aren't a whole lot of similarities between the two but...
They both have strings...although the piano has MANY more than the violin. They are both played in treble clef (piano is also played in bass clef). They are both commonly used in classical music. They can both be very melodic instruments (whereas the bass most frequently functions as a rhythm/harmonic instrument).

they both have strings lol. they also both have a great range in sound-pitch. get out a good instrumental book from a library and check it out :-)
