If you're asking about a six pack as in defined ab muscles, it's more about low body fat than big muscles. You'll need strong ab muscles but even if they're super strong and you have too much body fat you'll never see the six pack.

Do lots of cardio as well as ab exercises.

haxemon is right, especially for men, as men tend to hold their weight in their bellies, which covers up your abs fast. If your body fat is low, and you still dont have definition, there's a lot of different drills you can do to increase muscles in the abdomen. Gym machines are always great as you can target lots of muscle groups independently, but I'm going to assume you meant other ideas that didnt involve equipment...

Situps are the classic standby. When you're able to do them easily, try increasing the difficulty by holding weights above your head while you do them, or doing them on an incline. The key to building muscle is to do fewer, but harder (heavier, higher impact) reps, as opposed to doing a million easy crunches, which will be good for endurance and fat burning but probably not strength training.

Leg lifts can help target your lower abs - either lie on your back and hold your legs straight out, a few inches above the ground, for 30 seconds at a time, or if you can find something to balance on, hold your body up on your arms with your feet off the ground, and try to bring your legs up and down, straight out in front of you, without kicking or swinging them too hard.

crunches and sit ups dont do it. they'll just build the muscles, not define it. anyone who has a solid six pack has a low body fat percentage and may not even be strong in the ab region. I probably do more ab work then any of my friends and i just have a solid belly because i have a higher body fat percentage.

Do sit ups.
