Here in Texas-- we have a "carry" law
you have to go through a course, pass a test and be licensed -- and there are very distinct rules to follow and heavy penalties for noncompliance--- I have such a licenses and think it is a very very good thing--- people who would be at random acts of craziness in Texas must give a least a moment of thought as to who among us is------carrying !!!

According to Professor Gary Kleck law abiding armed citizesn STOP a crime approximatly 2.5 MILLION times a year in this country. According to Professer John Lott if every county in the US had "shall issue" concealed carry laws we would have had far fewer murders, rapes, armed robberies and asualts every years and would have saved millions of dollars.
Both of them are criminologist, one at Miami the other in Chicago and the two studies are seperate, independent and have been repeated by various universities with the same results.
But its not rocket science to figure out that criminals perfer unarmed victims.
As far as everyday folks being tempted to become murders just by being in possesion of a firearm, well it just doesn't happen. If you look as the stats for arrest between the general population and those folks with a permit to carry you will find that permit holders are more law abiding than the general public.

You can decide for yourself. If you have a permit to carry a gun then go ahead if you find it necessary. If you carry one illegally and concealed then it is your decision. If I cannot carry a gun legally and I am in a place of danger I should go somewhere I am not in as much danger to think I need to carry one. If you live where it is dangerous enough that I think I need to carry a gun then try to move somewhere else. Life is too short to live in unsafe places that require carrying a gun. Having one at home is another issue. I will always think it is best to have a hideaway gun in case of a home invasion or someone breaking in. You need one in the home and should practice home invasion safety and practice techniques to get out of that situation. Guns need to be away from small children and children should be taught gun safety as soon as possible in life. Criminals that endanger others or rob people need to be shot dead.

Yes, as a 21 year veteran cop I can say it does work. Only honest people apply for the permits, the criminals are already carrying guns anyway.
The Topeka Ks. PD had a guy from Oklahoma with carry permit shoot an armed robber who was going to do the clerk and the permit holder.. Ooops big mistake for Mr. Armed Robber!

Ive been doing hid carry in Maine, Mass and Alaska on the grounds that 1978. Summertime is often a undertaking. maximum human beings eiether have a summer season gun and a iciness gun. as quickly as I lived in Boston and Portland I carried a small Baretta 380 that slot in a back pocket 'wallet holster' while donning shorts and a t-blouse........ I merely carried an identity card and a few $$ in the front pocket while on the sea coast or wandering approximately. Come fall and iciness i became back to the 45acp 1911. on the instant - you have allot of great possibilities for smaller summer season weapons. confident, you do eiether supply up skill or scuffling with potential - yet a minimum of you have a gun. in the summer season - good hazard your opponent has purely a knife or fists - that's a criminal subject while making use of deadly rigidity to shelter your self. merely watch CNN on the instant and hear relating to the subject concerns George Zimmerman is having for protecting himself......... even in the event that they say the guy he shot 'purely had Skittles' - fact is George have been given a broken nostril, broken teeth, and broken dermis/bruise at the back of his head that didnt have any Skittle strains. they do no longer make one gun that 'does all of it' - in the event that they did, my spouse could are growing to be to be me one and purchased each and each of something in the secure. weapons are not any diverse than approaches - you're able to be able to desire to pass with the miraculous one for the miraculous job. on the instant - I nevertheless have a small 380 I carry while donning suits or shorts - yet - I even have the 40 5 for spring and 5.7x28mm FN FiveSeven for fall and iciness. My advice to you - start up observing the severe end holsters like Galco and Bianchi and discover what holsters you are able to ruin out with concealing - then play Cinderella and seek for/choose a pistol that suits those holster fashions. Glocks, Sigs, XD's, etc - those are in many situations 'service pistols' designed for people who've a job that demands a pistol or concealability isn't a controversy. have you ever fired a Glock 19? humorous factor - human beings will spend hours attempting on footwear to stroll out with a $40 pair - yet - will pluck down $six hundred or greater for a pistol that they have got in no way ever held or fired. you're able to get as lots set off time on each and all the quite a few pistols till now you lay down annoying earned funds. No experience paying for a pistol for hid carry that's no longer designed for it. Glocks are stunning - yet - remember the miraculous device for the miraculous job.

I think it should be, but there are too many irresponsible people out there. Besides, media always gives guns a bad name because they never show the stories where people use guns to defend their homes, only the cases where guns were "harmful".
Besides, compare the violence rates of the 60's with today's. GUNS aren't the problem. Stupid people are!

I think it might be too tempting for a person to use it unnecessarily. People have a tendency to use what ever they can to "win" a fight or arguement. So that makes me a little nervous.
Granted I am for right to bear arms, but I think we should still be careful with this.
Imaging this was passed, and crime increased. There would be a push to ban all weapons everywhere, not just go back to the way it was.

Should people have the right?
I think the better question is, have we failed as a society if we all need to carry pieces in public just to feel safe?
The idea of a public teeming with guns is not a good or smart one. We can do better.

You should read the book More Guns Less Crime by John Lott. He was very anti-gun until he did research to support his position. He changed his stance on gun control and wrote the book. I think you will find it to be an interesting book.
