anything up for Lent? I never do and I was just curious if anyone still does this. I know a girl who gives up chocolate, that is dedication. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I'm 24 and none of my friends (obviously the Catholic ones) give anything up. My husband's parents used to make him give up tv as a kid, so he never gives up anything now that he is an adult.

If you're of the younger generation ( 18-34 , as i am) its a much less common practice. However, if you're a practicing Catholic, its still a good idea as it reminds us that the most important and valuable things in our lives are not material. As a matter of fact, it even sounds like a good idea to me now that I mention it, and I haven't considered myself Catholic in years.

Yes, I usually give diet coke for lent (it's a big deal for me since I drink about 3 can of diet coke EVERYDAY). Usually the first few days I get headaches from caffine withdrawal but its only for 40 days.

You don't have to give something up, you can commit to something instead. Last year I did the St Joesph prayer daily.
