My hunch and logic would tell me that you need to keep your fingernails and especially your toenails clean. Keep your toenails cut. Perhaps a regular manicure would help as well.
Wear clean socks, and if you like to go barefoot in the summer or wear sandals, just bathe your feet before you put on close toed shoes.
