I already bought a cassette looking thing which I was told could be connected to an mp3 player, or cd player? I am kind of lost on how this all works.

Buy a portable MP3 player with a cassette adapter. You'll also need a CD burner in your computer to burn CD audio or MP3 files to a disc.

Put the wire from the adapter you bought into the headphone jack on your mp3 or cd player. Adjust your volume on your mp3 player or cd player to 75% and then set your car stereo to tape and insert the adapter into the tape deck.

Get and ipod and an ipod car adapter
You can connect your ipod to a tape that goes in your tape deck.
Then you can run the ipod off batteries or connect it to your cigarette lighter.
