Like, I know about pool hustling, and hustling in sports like basketball (i.e. white men can't jump).

But what kind of hustling do the rappers talk about? Like when they say stuff like "Everyday I'm hustlin" ...?

Anything illegal to make fast money.
Could mean dealing drugs, gambling, pimping or prostituting, stealing/shoplifting, or even smaller things like braiding/styling hair without a license or bumming money off other people.

It's either tricking someone or there is a dance called the hustle.

In the rap music context, "hustling" refers to aggressive, illegal efforts to snag $$$$--be such efforts made in illegal drug sales, "managing" prostitutes, robbing people or businesses.....or even the clever street con games.

Rappers have it in their heads being born black already did them in; the world has NO opportunities for them--so they go "gansta" and do what they got to do. Rappers also feel weilding the gun and becomming an over-looming threat towards others demands respect. Little wonder why when they actually live out the rap songs they so much love.....they wind up in prison or dead.

Many mean selling drugs, e.g. coke, crack, heroin. Others simply mean the act of getting money, whether legally (selling music, etc.) or illegally (selling stolen goods, etc.).

Makin dat guap soup.

in plain terms......

it means you are making money by your own means. It does't have to be illegal. You could be selling oranges on the highway and be hustle. Like I said it is just making money by your own means(without a 9-5).

Struggling to make money or make a living.
Not necessarily selling drugs, trying to make money to get by.
