There is a beach scene where the American's are attacked on a beach, is that beach Normandy beach or a beach in Japan?

Its Iwo Jima, a Japanese held island in the Pacific. It was done during the island hopping campaign. We went from island to island, slowly getting closer to Japan. Once we had the island we used it as an airfield to fly bombers over to the home island of Japan
