A couple of facts for you blue:
Al Gore received more votes than George Bush in 2000.
Senator Obama is not the first African-American to run for President.
Many Americans, even in the opposing Republican party, appear to respect Senator Obama.
Sen. Obama meets all of the Constitutional requirements to be the President.
The demographics of the US are changing. More young people are voting. The race of the Presidential candidate is less of an issue as time goes on.
Americans are accused of being racist. As though we are the exception. Name one black head of state, in any country, outside of the Caribbean or Africa. If you can find one, good for you. I can't think of any. We are not the exception.
I'm a 49 year old white male and Sen. Barak Obama has just as much of a chance of getting my vote as any of the other candidates. In fact I like his lack of experience as a Washington politician. I'm going to vote for the person that I believe will make the best President. Regardless of the candidates race, gender or the mispronunciation of his/her name.

Thee is no white man alive capable of defeating Obama. Remember, white men can't jump or run with black men. OH, I am so sorry, that is just not politically correct, please don't turn me into the civil liberties union, they would tar and feather me, except that would be a hate crime in Texas.
Obama has probably just as good a chance as anyone to win the nomination in the Democratic party. I think he stands out from everyone else, not just because he is black and has a funny name, but because he at leasts makes a little sense from time to time. So far he hasn't experienced an imaginary conspiracy from the Rebublicans, nor does he suffer from visions of granduer, but speaks plainly in a manner of ease and discipline long ago left behind by the vast majority of the Democratic and Republican party. That does not mean He is my choice for president, I just relish the though that finally, the Party of asses, can leave their braying and snorting and move on to a logical approach to governing this country.

I think he probably has a decent chance. I'm embarrassed that there has been such a vocal minority here that wants to make issue of his race! I object to Obama, but because of his RECORD and the ideals that he stands for... entitlements, big government, tax and spend... He is nothing if not attractive and charismatic, but way too liberal for my choice. He actually ranks more liberal than Hillary on the Senate floor, and thus, is disqualified from my vote. I haven't seen anyone else I'm jazzed about though.

Red Herring.
He will make Hillary look good if all goes according to plan. The plan started with Howard Dean going into Yodeling mode to shift himself to the far left and make her look good by comparison.
It is the old, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain", ploy and millions of Americans will be duped into supporting Hillary.

Yes, that's why we vote for someone. Because of their name. Obviously, he'll have to write-off the idiot vote. But since those are the same idiots who think voting for Republicans is in their best interest, he wouldn't have gotten those votes anyway.
Fortunately, there are still plenty of non-idiots out there who don't care about name or skin color, but actually focus on policy.

No wonder you're confused--you can't even spell. His name is Barack Obama.
Why is he running?
* "It was here, in Springfield, where North, South, East and West come together that I was reminded of the essential decency of the American people."
* "What's stopped us is the failure of leadership, the smallness of our politics -- the ease with which we're distracted by the petty and trivial, our chronic avoidance of tough decisions, our preference for scoring cheap political points instead of rolling up our sleeves and building a working consensus to tackle the big problems of America."
* "People who love their country can change it."
What a concept.

Political Opportunity. He has such name recognition right now it would be stupid to waste it. He probably knows that he has little chance of being elected this time around but by running he can ensure that he won't be easily forgotten in the future.

He thinks that he has a chance because he thinks that the majority of Americans will vote for him because it makes them feel good to vote for a black person, because it makes them politcally correct.
