Here is yet another college party where white students use the excuse of being "politically incorrect" to express white supremacy. It seems that their biggest problem with our so-called "politically correct" culture is that it prevents them from wearing their white hoods in public.

I am not saying these parties should be banned. I am simply observing that these students felt the need to "challenge taboos", and the taboo they chose to focus on was the one against lynching black people!

boogity man, that's a completely opposite situation. Is anyone pretending to lynch black people in that story?

First of all, I think this proves the point that racism is alive and well in the US.
Secondly, as I learned as a white woman married to a black man since the 70s, I would rather have someone be a racist in public than smile in my face and be a racist behind my back.
Third, I think the idea of parties where you dress as something or somebody that is politically incorrect is pretty disgusting, but I'm with you in terms of your question. Why would the main theme be one of race?
And finally, why aren't these young people concerned with protesting the war?? That was the way we "rebelled" in my day (oh yeah, I know, that was "the old days"...), and, funny thing, we ended up being CORRECT!!!!

I think it is tasteless.
but what were other costumes that were worn to the party? 5 to 1 says there were a few tasteless costumes at the party that should have drawn the people ire of other races as well, and I don't see that mentioned in the article.
how do you know all the students were white? the article does not mention that. how do you know there were no African Americans or Asians or Hispanics? you are assuming the students involved were white, but no actual proof, isn't that a form of racism?
I don't think it has to do with racism, it has to do with stupid kids (yes even in college there are a lot of stupid kids...) dong something they thought was funny but in reality was just dumb.
I sat behind a guy in one class, on his laptop on the back ground he had a KKK symbol most people would not recognize, the kid had a half Hispanic/African American girlfriend and his best friend in the school was gay. I confronted him on it and he admitted he just had it on there to see if anyone would notice... he was being a dumb kid who though he was being funny and after I was done with him he wasn't feeling too damn funny I assure you.
If you want to know what the biggest problem in "our so-called "politically correct" culture" really is? well its people who scream racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism and every other -ism or -phobia instead of actually talking to the other person or getting to know the whole story before making that claim.
and by the way from the tone of your question and your follow up information, it seems to me that racism doesn't just hide behind a white sheet any more, it comes in the form of avatars as well.
but i doubt you would see the connection.

in case you concentration and demand on accuracy, you would be accused of being too "Politically superb". that's ok. Shrug it off while it happens and circulate on with your existence. Political Correctness is basically lame while that's incorrect. So, confident. in case you properly and properly describe a non-white as racist, somebody is specific to assert which you're no longer politically superb. however the fault is in them, no longer you. Implicit on your question is a 2nd question: Is it achieveable for a non-white to be racist? of path that's. Racism is basically the perception that one race is inherently stronger to a various. alongside with a perception like "Asians are smarter than Whites." yet there are ameliorations, counting on the cultural atmosphere. If a member of the final public is racist, which could be greater risky than if a member of a minority is racist. think of roughly it... If 10 white adult adult males have been in a room with a million black guy, and the black guy theory he replace into greater efficient via fact of his race, the others would probable basically chuckle. yet while a number of the white adult adult males theory they have been greater efficient and something of the white adult adult males weren't involved one way or the different, the black guy would be in a surprisingly undesirable difficulty. So, via fact the flair for injury is larger while racism is centred on a minority, there is logically plenty greater subject approximately that style of racism. And, some human beings would even see the acknowledgment of alternative "much less considerable" varieties of racism as a distraction. of path, while you're in a lecture room or another place the place there are few whites between a lot of human beings of yet another race, you're basically suffering the reality of being in a minority group... that's probable no longer continually relaxing, yet you're additionally probable gaining fairly some perception into what some minorities would desire to circulate via their finished lives.

Usually I'm with ya man - but on this one no. They have a right to express themselves. Doesn't matter if I like it or not.
Clarification - I think it's disgusting, and any idiot I see doing it is gonna hear from me loud and clear. I have a right to free speech, and I'd use it on these kids, or anyone else. However - The University has no business telling them what to do.

God, hipsterism drives me crazy.
They're not lynching anyone, but it's bad nonetheless. Maybe even worse because they think they are "fighting racism". Making light of racist stereotypes doesn't decrease the power that stereotype has in the real world.

you mean college kids are not bastions of morals and model citizenship? GASP!
they're stupid college kids, whoop-de-crap. I don't condone their activities, but I wish it was the worst thing a bunch of college kids ever got together and did.
That's why they go to college, b/c they need to grow up. Hopefully the experience of getting roundly condemned will help with that.

So it isn't OK for them to exercise their First Amendment Rights?
But it's OK for Jane Fonda to say that American soldiers who die in Iraq are no better than war criminals, and it's OK for William Arkin to say that US forces are mercenaries, and are lucky that Americans don't spit upon them?
You can't have it both ways.
Edit: I don't agree with any expression of racism, but I also think that if you are going to defend one person's right to express themselves, then the rule should apply to all.

Political Correctness is an old ploy from the Marx and Engels era..you're smart enough to know this.
For years ,PC has been the camouflage of the Leftists to horn their agenda down the gullet of America.
I'm not excusing what those people did; racism and bigotry is inexcusable and vile.
