The fact that he is still employed by Real Madrid, even if he is out of favor with the coach tells you he can still play. I'm sure many top international teams would have been very happy to have gained his services and the publicity the comes with him if MLS had not.
The thing about Beckham is that even in his prime he was never a "dominant" player. He is one of the best in the world at taking free kicks and I'm sure he will score a few lovely goals in MLS that way, but you can't dominate a game with free kicks.
His main attributes on the field have always been more about a pretty solid work rate and setting up his teammates with crosses. Hopefully he will continue to do that, make some players around him better, draw new viewers to the league and maybe inpire some other talented foreign players to join MLS, but I don't see him dominating.

He has always been a little over rated as a player, but he is still one of the best at set plays on free kicks. He was finally allowed to play again for Real Madrid today and scored in his first game back on his trademark bending free kick.

He is dwindling down but i do believe beckham will still be serviceable. its unfortunate that the MLS is the minor league of world soccer. why would you play in the USA when you can play in Europe for big money?
they are overpaying Beckham so that people might go to games to see him and his spice girl (posh) wifey.
and their kids as well

He is dwindling down and for him is going to be hard to play with players that they have different way to play from Europe.
Sometimes he is going to be excellent or outstanding like in free kicks or individual offensives and sometimes can be just dull by its own team.
He is the smartest...because he knows is dwindling down he took the great offer plus he has another 5 years of playing in each match, which in Europe was going to be so hard because of the high level of competition and great players.

I'm in England. Most of us were glad to see him go to Spain. Now he's being inflicted on the poor US. Some say he's a has-been. I say he's a never-was. His passing was his best feature. He's not good at that anymore. His popularity is mostly due to his "pretty boy" looks and his flamboyancy. Marrying the leat talented of the Spice Girls didn't hurt his reputation any.

He's past his prime and the rest of the league will go out of their way to show him that.
