They’re men without fear, not without brains. Ok, Hal wins because his ring automatically protects him from fatal injury. Or he wins because Matt can sense his heartbeat from a distance and can tell that Hal’s not going to turn aside, so he has to. Either way Hal wins.
[It’s a good thing Matt wasn’t chosen. I can just see Abin Sur trying to argue with the ring: “Of what use is a blind Green Lantern? How can he operate his Ring?” “We’ll modify it so he is using a sound-projecting device, and we’ll call him the F-Sharp Bell!”]

It sort of matters about the setting because he has to ding things. So i would go with Hal
