Who has taken it...I take it sometimes, and I get the 'high' feeling right before I go to bed, anyone else get this? Is it really addictive...and also, how long does it take to kick in?

There was a while when I took it every night to get to sleep, and I felt the same "high" I think you're referring to -- it comes on quick, and makes you feel really light; almost dizzying, really. So yes, I think it's a common thing if you take the medication, but don't lie down to sleep (staying up after the drugs have taken effect brings it on). Different body chemistry will cause differences in the effect of the medication, but generally it takes anywhere from 20-60 minutes for the doses to fully take effect.

The active ingredient in this is benadryl which is much cheaper than the two together. They give benadryl to old people to help them sleep. It shouldn't make you high but sleepy. It is not addictive but a very benign form of antihistamine and sleep aid that causes few side effects maybe drying of the mouth and eyes and sleepiness. Take it at least 30 min. before you want to go to sleep. It is sold in capsule form which is great for bee or any insect bite when opened and put directly on the bite and taken by mouth to prevent allergic reaction. It's sold in store brand also and works just as well. It's safe for younger people and the elderly also. It's cheap too.

I came home from work the other day with a terrible head ache (work related). I took 2 after supper (about 6:10 p.m.) I woke up at 8:15, turned on CSI and there was a commercial. I never did watch CSI that night. I woke up at 10:45, got up and went to bed and slept straight through. I never do that. Definitely only take the TYLENOL PM at night!

its not addictive but it will quit working (your body gets tolerant to the drowsiness effect) if you use it daily for more than a week or two- works best if you only use it here and there when you need a good night's sleep or are having trouble sleeping. usually takes ~30 minutes to kick in like somebody else said. and like others said as well the stuff in there that makes you sleepy is benadryl, and you can get the generic really cheap

Diphenhydramine is suppose to be non habit forming, yet many experinces from Erowid.com are said to include relaxation and if taken in large doses minor hallcinations.

Any drug can become habit forming, in other words addicting. Meaning that if your brain enjoys the whatever feeling you recieve you are going to be drawn back to take more of the drug.

Usually any pain reliever takes about a half hour to an hour to kick in, that applies for most over the counter meds.

Now in my opinon you need to stop if you dont consider alternitive methods this minor addiction could lead to more srious addctions. You can consider self hypnosis tapes, and many great herbal remedies that help getting to sleep much eaiser. Visit your local health store or co-op. They will point you in the right direction.

They don't like to use the word addictive, so they say it's not habit-forming. That's like saying it doesn't work. All drug companies want you to keep using their drug. They wouldn't make money if you used it once and never needed it again.

That's why it's best to learn how to fall asleep on your own, without medication. It's fine to use medication when you need a little extra help, but you should always do all you can to be free of the crutch that really works to break your legs. I have been dependent on that medicine before, and I hated it. I was able to stop it through a established routine of exercise.

First of all, it should only be taken when needed to sleep/reduce fever or pain. Never should it be taken just because you like the *high* feeling you get.

Not sure how you're getting a high off it either....things like this can mess with your stomach bigtime and shouldn't be used recreationally. You'll regret it when you end up the ER with a hole in your stomach (the inside) and need surgery.

Try a glass of warm milk or a cd of rain falling.....something other than a drug that can have adverse affects that you'll regret later in life....

I take three per night, because it helps with my arthritis and allows me to sleep. I never have felt "high." (Perhaps I should feel gyp-ed!!!) It is not addictive, but you should know that it is filtered through your liver...I would not take it if I were a drinker of alcohol. A friend took many of them when she was battling migraines, and damaged her liver to such an extent that she has been warned to never take them again.

I've tried it, but it never seems to work for me... Just kind of puts me in a daze but I'm still unable to fall asleep.
