Did he say your baby could have pneumonia? The congestion is in her chest. Did your doctor perform any tests? Like a culture test to see if it was a virus, common cold or bacteria? Make sure your baby stays hydrated, if its a virus may be why the Doc couldn't help. Sounds odd a Doc would say there is nothing you can do. If their is a bacteria present causing the congestion an antibiotic would help. Watch your babies temp if it rises take her to the emergency room. For the time being if you have a Humidifier it may help loosen some of the congestion.

my familys home remidy is called gee its unsalted butter that you put in a pot on the stove you let it be on the lowest possible setting for like 6 hours until the stuff (milk) comes to the top of the butter and then falls to the bottom then you take cheese cloth or paper towel and strain then you put it into a jar its makes a unspoilable pure oil that you can take a little bit of in a eye dropper or spoon and let the baby swallow or adult sumtimes i still take the stuff if my throat hurts it breaks up the congestion and it cannot hurt anything at all it doesn't need to be refridgerated or anything it can also help with constipation ;)
its a ton of work but it lasts a long time you probably won't have to do it for a yr so if you want to give it a try go for it also if you have more questions you can e-mail me it seems sorta out there but when your desprete your desprete and at least this cannot hurt n e thing

Poor baby! Again with the cool mist vapor. Also my pediatrician said when babies are stuffed up they cough because they don't know how to blow their nose ( Yeah I don't know sounds a little stupid but she has the degree ) I have a plastic tub for my baby and i ran really really hot water in the bathroom so the steam would fill the room. Then I just filled his tub normal warm water it broke up all that junk in his lungs and he had more productive coughs. I also kept him elevated so he could breathe. saline solution and a nasal aspirator is your friend. If you feel uncomfortable with your doctor's decision get a second one your mommy you know when your baby is really sick and it will put your mind at ease. I hope she gets well soon

They did a study that says that cough medecines don't do anything, but they say to use a decongestant, I guess often times a cough could be do to post nasal drip and other congestion things I just cant think of on the spot right now.

Take her to another doctor. Or to the Emergency Room. If congestion is that bad that you can hear it, she could have bronciolitis. My son had it when he was about that age. It's a form of bronchitis. There is something they can do. Breathing treatments and medications. Don't wait for the doctor. Follow your instincts.

I have given up on drs for my son...they either can't solve the problem or medicate until he is bombed out of his skull.
I've started using homeopathic remedies. One place to start is abchomeopathy.com.

If your daughter coughs most often when in a room with not much air circualtion, take her outside or maybe turn a fan on in the room.

Oh I'm so sad for you and your babygirl! It STINKS to see the little ones sick. I would recommend a humidifer in the bedroom. Also I would wipe some Vicks vapor-rub on the sheets around where she lays and a little on her sleeper (NOT on her skin though) You can also make a little "tent" with a sheet over her bed and let the humidifier blow the most air in there so she can breathe it.
Best of luck to you

Go sit with your baby in your smallest bathroom with a shower. Start running the hot water at full blast. Sit there breathing the steam with her.

Aye the vaporizer works wonders for the little one, cool is better then warm. You'll have to hit up a pharmacy to see what I mean.
