from MY experience..i did gain weight..BUT, i was on them for so long it didn't seem to matter. an "older" lady told me once to stay away from chocolate, and salt when you know your period is coming, and you have the urge to eat that kinda stuff. I've been married for 16 years, and i avoid choc, and salt that time of the month, and my husband doesn't even know when i "start"...the mood swings stopped!!! the different brands have different levels of hormones, etc. search the web (pill identification.com, for the name of your Rx. then compare to others you find! the Drug co.'s donate them to planned parenthood, and Dr.'s to get their brand into use. the dr. that gave them to you probably thought they were best for your system...sometimes they can be too strong, or not strong enough....call them, and ask. they won't mind helping you figure out if another brand is better for you!
good luck! i sure hope your trying to protect your self (in more than one way) won't ruin your relationship....he should have a little more patience than it sounds.... give it all a little more time!

Mirena IUD is something you are able to look into. i've got been on each thing. pills gave me migraines and Depo made me depressed. I have been given my IUD purely a month and a a million/2 in the past, yet i'm soo happy with it. It harm like hell to insert, and cramped for 5 days after, yet that became it. My classes quickly went away, and that i do no longer even realize it incredibly is there. No remembering something for 5 years. do no longer do the copper IUD, that makes classes heavier and indications worse. i've got heard maximum of damaging memories for Depo, so in case you do not get problems- i easily loved Yaz for a pill.

i get moodswings on mine if i dont take them at the same time everyday, i guess b/c of an overload of hormones or something. i use yasmin and i dont know if i gained weight at the time i started taking it- if i did then it wasnt drastic. i think id rather gain a little weight than get pregnant though.

it probably takes a little while to get used to so if you take it consistently then i am sure you will get used to it.
