No, the government is not hiding any facts about intelligent life.
The requirements necessary for life are so extremely rare in the universe that it is not likely to exist nearby and it might not exist anywhere other than Earth. It is a miracle that life exists on Earth because a slight difference in one of many variables would have prevented it from ever arising.
Even with the proper conditions, life would never have arisen were it not for Earth's extremely large iron core and corresponding magnetic field. This shields us from solar and galactic radiation which would otherwise destroy life at the molecular level.
There is, however, the possibility that simple life forms may have been transported from Earth into space either by meteor impacts or human space travel. Whether or not this life could survive elsewhere is uncertain but unlikely.

Yes I do. Could you imagine the chaos which would erupt around the world if people new there was other intelligent life on the planets. The first question people would ask "are they friendly or are they going to destroy us all" ? Then you will have the religious lobby trying to come to terms with such a discovery. No, I think it is in the peoples best interest that they don't know if life exists on other planets, and for those who already do know, can you imagine the terrible burdon they have to carry around for the rest of their lives knowing life does indeed exist elsewhere !

Think about this in a rational way. What would there be to be gain by hiding such knowledge? If our government knew about the existance of such life they would tell the world. How could they keep other people of the world from discovering the same thing? It would have to be an international conspiracy of the grandest scale with thousands of people in on the secret. Tell a secret to one person and see how long it takes to get back to you. everytime somebody found out they would have to go," quiet now its just our little secret."
