Nothing is free you will pay with sharply higher taxes. worse than that the care standard will plummet.

Well, it wouldn't be totally free; funding would come from the Federal budget...however, I believe we need a National Health Insurance and I think it should be free to those who cannot pay.
There are over 43 million people in our country who have no health insurance because they cannot afford the premium. 43 MILLION. Right now, when these folks get ill, they either don't go for treatment or, if they do go, it is usually to the emergency room - where they are treated anyway. The hospital makes nothing - they treat for free...The prescription (if needed) is provided free...This is why medical insurance costs are rising so much. If there was a national plan, at least the providers would get something......

Some national health care stories.
I lived for a time in a land w/nationalized health care. You had better believe I still carried insurance so I could go out of the nation and get good care if I had more than a boil to lance.
A friend of mine had a beautiful daughter. Six years later or so that girl came down with appendicitis. The doctors there were unable to diagnose it and the girl DIED.
Another friend's mother-in-law (from Quebec) had a lump in her neck. It was months before the Soviet-Canuckistani health care system was able to see her. Fortunately, her cancer was non-aggressive and slow growing.
PJ O'Rourke notes if you think health care is expensive now, wait till its "free".
One last note. Not all medical costs are skyrocketing. Nope, two big areas where prices are stable or FALLING are lasik eye surgery & cosmetic surgery where people have to pay out of their own pockets.

No. I don't think people who take care of themselves should have to foot the bill for the rest of you eat whatever, consume whatever, loaves.
However, big industry has seen an increase in cancer and leukemia and all companies unless exempted should pay waaaay more taxes which should go entirely toward free clinics set up specifically for these diseases.
I also think that there should be no laws preventing a smart but unlicensed person in the community from setting up practice and not accepting insurance and from said person recommending dietary changes, herbal remedies, exercise, and if necessary a specialist, or from delivering babies and treating wounds in so far as they are capable for pay.

I have great concerns about the quality of care that would be received and the increase in taxes to pay for it. The experiment in socialized medicine has been a failure compared to the level of quality care available here in the US. For instance, cataract patients can have ONE eye fixed, but not both.
I travel extensively in eastern Europe. In Ukraine, all medical care is cut off at age 60. If you have a chronic condition that is treatable, you are simply but to bed to die. One woman I spent an afternoon with fell and broke her hip at age 61. Her body was contorted, and she could no longer walk as a result of the way the bones healed improperly. She was also put to bed in otherwise good health. There simply isn't enough money available, and cuts have to be made somewhere. We may not revert to something this poor, but the quality of care would necessarily drop.

well in Canada everyone has health care. It is not free.... but if you are low income it is. Based on your income tax, you get a notice saying if you need to pay or not. I never had as the amount of kids with my income makes me eligable for subsidized, even though we are not poor at all. So for free, we get unlimited doctor visits and hospital care, blood work, surgery, maternity care, all that for free. For extended benefits (ambulance and glasses, dental work, pysio).. that is through work, basically everything under the sun is covered, even massage on some plans. They take very little off of your check. I am now paying $150 for my health care because my position at work it causual and doen'st offer health care. I get ambulance, glasses, over $1500 dental a year. 100% of all persciptions are covered, no matter what they are for.. .all this for me and each individual in my family I think the states should have a system like ours. I hear you all need free clinics cause some people can't afford care. I saw that movie Jonny Q and bawled. That is so sad that you could die without proper coverage. Man, I am even covered for a private room!

Do you believe American citizens who can't buy health insurance at any price should be forced to pay for government workers and elected officials healthcare through taxation? Do you believe the uninsured should get treatment they can't pay for at the expense of those with insurance, or should they be left to die? Are you pro-life or pro-death? Health insurance doesn't have to be free to be universal.

It is never free, it has to be paid for one way or the other, if you mean should the government pay for our health care, then I got to tell you that is our taxes paying for it. It is not free. Should the government offer universal health care I say yes, currently health care in the U.S. cost more then any other country, that's right number 1 yet we rank 14th behind many country's that offer U.H.C. for its people in quality of care. In the long run it would cost the American people less to pay into a universal system then it does now with private ownership, we would improve our quality of care and 47 million people that does not have access to affordable care at this time would be covered. It is a win, win, win situation.

No, based upon the simple fact that Insurance companies use the money we pay to them to cover emergencies. If we didn't pay them, how would they pay for our accidents and claims that we can't cover? Look at how the companies reacted when they couldn't handle all the claims from hurricane Katrina. They got down to the nitty griddy to keep their heads above water. That money they payed people for damages is what we pay to them in case we need it. The idea is nice and in an Ethiopia that would work but our world isn't perfect like that. Without some source of income to make claims payable, health insurance would become obsolete. It's your choice to pay for it or not ... I choose to pay for it so that if I happen to be in a situation where I need financial coverage aid I have it.
We'd pay for it one way or another, like others have said through taxes or to the individual companies. If we switched it to taxes the tax rates would sky rocket and people would complain anyway. Why blaim it all on Bush when Health Insurance has been an issue for decades?

Health insurance will never be free. Either you pay for itself and have some choices or you over pay for it in your taxes to help cover all of the other losers that sit home on there buts and have no choices.
