What with Kylie’s premature return to work, causing her a bout of illness, and the dissolution of her relationship, rumored to be due to conflicting work schedules. And the whole big brother phenomenon, where people, celebs and celeb wannabes, will undo what little reputation and dignity they have left to be seen on TV everyday.
I wonder why the desire to be famous is greater in some people than the desire to have a family or to be healthy. I would think that these are the fundamentals of life, success and recognition, although important, should be further down the list, surely?
What creates this desire to be known by everyone?
Is it as simple as a lack of self esteem?
Is it vanity?
It seems to me that the bigger they are, the lonelier and more insular their lives seem to become. Yet people pursue that “big fame” at very big costs.

I think you are right. Most people who hunger for fame seem to be ignorant of what it entails, and they are often very surprised and very unhappy. Some, though, like Becks, seem to just take it into their stride and go on lusting for more.

What I do find interesting, a la Big Brother, like you said, is the 'turnover' in fame. Most of these people are the 'raw material' for the back-room wheeler-dealers that make the really big money. They don't take the risks of fame themselves, though. Simon Cowell seems to have started in the back-room but decided he would like a taste after all.

I guess it works best for those that achieve it slowly and learn to live with it and make sure they permanently benefit from it. I wouldn't mind a bit of that secret recipe myself.
