The Sun is special for Earth. It feeds the Earth with its energy and is one of the contributing factors to life.
Otherwise, in astronomy the Sun is just a main sequence and very common star.

Spiratually I like the idea that the sunrise symbolises birth or a new beginning and the sunset symbolising closure at the end of the day.
Scientifically, it is the brightest and largest star in our galaxy the Milky Way and it it takes about 8 minutes to travel to reach our earth. If it were to blow up we wouldnt know about it till about 8 minutes afterwards. Humans need the sun for vitamin D and provide plants with the ability to undergo photosynthetic reactions to convert water and sunlight into sugar (food) for survival.

Without the sun being there, you would become a special "vanilla ice". Everything would freeze up instantly. God only knows what the temperature here on earth would be without the sun.

"Sun" is one of the names we call the star that Earth orbits. Without the Sun, life on earth would cease.

there is nothing special about it, but it is important because of one simple fact:
Without sun there won't be our life as we know it.
