check cablging , power and data, does the light come on ?
does it see it in the BIOS boot?

UNinstall it and then REinstall the CD Rom

1. RIGHT click MyComputer > Properties
2. Select tab HARDWARE > button Device Manager
3. Click the + beside Disk drives
4. Find your CD Rom drive > RIGHT cick > select UNINSTALL

5. Restart your computer. It should "see" the CD Rom as new hardware, and it should reinstall drivers.
Should do the trick!

The drive may have went bad on you. If you have just installed this drive you may not have the jumper setting correct on the back of the drive. If its an old cd rom it may have went bad or you may need to simply check the ribbon cable conections and make sure they didnt wiggle loose. Good luck!

Dude I had the same problem with my XPS M140 Dell laptop. Had to call tech support. Took the techie like a bazillion attempts, but it's back on my laptop. Call em' up! Good luck!
