Americans keep stating that all people from the uk cannot spell. This is not true and only ignorance would believe it. They must realise that you cannot judge a whole nation on the account of a few minor individuals. I know a lot of americans who are damn reatrded and can't even spell "they", does'nt mean to say that all americans can't spell though does it?

Some american are snobs, they have eyes that see skywards and wear spectaculars with studded rhinestone like (cartoon) Mr Bean's landlady and very often they come with protruding curvy banana jaw too.

Americans spell some words differently to us and, being American, think that their's is the correct way. What they should remember is that the language they use is English - from England ergo our spelling is correct. I suspect that in the future we will be forced to use the American versions as we all use American designed computers with their inherrent American spelling!!

Having said that I have noticed that the standard of spelling has deteriorated in recent years. There seems to be a general laziness about grammar and spelling. Much of it probably brought on by the use of abbreviated texting, but also a lack of standards in general.

How can they say we can't spell when a lot of our words are not spelt the same? Also, they have 'spelling bees' to encourage their children. The thing about spelling is that it is either a skilful ability or you have to work bloody hard for a long time and have had a good education.
Like this spell check - I think it is American -it can't spell 'skilful'.
We have different rules to the Americans for spelling - and spelling is all to do with rules !

I don't know. Personally I find that the Americans can not spell, mainly through laziness they have changed the spelling of English words and the meaning of others, so from this side of the Atlantic things are seen as the reverse.

If you ask a question like this be careful. You wrote reatrded and does'nt. You're not really proving your point well. I do agree with you that all we are judged by others actions though.

I don't think they are. As a matter of fact, I posted a question on another forum stating that people on this forum from the UK apparently had a better grasp of grammar and usage, judging by the answers I was seeing.

It`s the Americans that can`t spell.
They regularly misspell the simplest words - either through ignorance ,arrogance or just plain laziness :-
Harbor instead of harboUr
Color - ColoUr
Sulfur - SulPHur
Humor - HumoUr
To quote a few examples.

Teachers refuse to open schools if so much as a snow flake touches the ground so how can children learn?
The teachers think an easy day off is more important than children's education.
Also we spell differently and we were here first so there you go.

I don't believe we are particularly. Our colonial cousins over the water do seem to want to change the spelling of some English words. perhaps they might do well to remember who actually invented English.
