I'd say Petsmart would be your best bet, just because it seems like their people are better educated and they definitely have lower prices than Petco. Also try craigslist.org, the pets section in your local area.

Petsmart
Here is how to buy them from online breeders:
Buy from an online breeder's website.
This is the second best way to buy a leopard gecko. The biggest advantage to online buying a leopard gecko is being able to find exactly the color morph you are looking for and because even with shipping and handling included you can save money over buying from a pet store. Overall buying leopard gecko's online is safe. I advise buying from a site that either specializes in leopard geckoes or specializes in geckoes in general. When you buy from an online site they mail you the gecko overnight. I have found this to be a safe system as long as the outside temperature from shipping to delivery is above 50 and below 90 degrees. I advise checking the temperature where you are ordering from and checking the temperature along the way to where you live to make sure it is a safe temperature along the way.

Here is an online breeder:

Look at your local pet stores. Leopard geckos and fat tail geckos are the best for beginners. Make sure that you look for signs of health, such as an active gecko, one that is eating well, has open eyes, no incomplete shedding, no signs of dehydration and is nicely fat, not skinny looking.

petco has them for 20.00 where I live. One work of advice NEVER and I mean NEVER buy a heat rock. They aren't safe. I raise and breed leopard geckos. I have 5 years of experience with them.

Good grief, try a pet store. Geckos are very common, but be sure you have the appropriate cage, heat rock, etc.
