Will You answer my question about the Show "Avatar: The Last Airbender"?

My question is about the benders. Can anyone person learn one of the four elements and use it as a bender or are there people just born with the ability to learn it? Help!!

They are just born with the power to control their element, not any other. It is just like we are born with our parents/relatives traits. A water bender could not do fire if they tried, except the Avatar.

No, there are normal people and then there are benders. Katara was born a bender and her grandmother taught her how to bend. Sokka on the other hand was born a human and has no powers. Possibly because his father was human and his mother was a bender so he got the weaker trait.

For another example, In X-men its possible for people to be born mutants or humans or later in life mutate.. but I guess that doesnt happen in Avatar:The Last Airbender.

Not everyone is a bender. Sokka, for instance is of the water tribe, but he's not a water bender. His sister, Katara, is on the other hand. You are born with the ability to learn bending not just anyone can bend an element.

Water benders can do water and nothing else but water bend.
They are born with it and they get better at it by practicing and learning more tricks. They can't do anything else but water bend.
This is the same with all the other benders (fire,earth and air).
Only the avatar (ang) can bend all four elements as he gets better. If the other avatars were alive then they could bend them too.

assuming that I have it right( my boys like this show and i watch with them some times) think of the 4 different groups as races. you are born into the fire group. your born into the wind group. you can't do any thing else but hat you were born into. The only person that can do more than one power is the Avatar. This person is born with all 4 powers and there is only one Avatar alive at any given time. hope this clears it up for you

First, one has to be born in the region that their element pertains to. Then, they must learn it from people that already know how to do it in their village. For example, Katara was taught by her grandma, but I guess that Sakka wasn't, because all that he does is throw a boomerang. I guess that he was raised to be a warrior.
