Slavery continued until it was no longer economically worthwhile; farmers and traders didn't want to pay money and invest in an empire that was failing. Slavery eventually became serfdom, which persisted until the late Middle Ages.

During the reign of the Roman Empire after Christianity started their were still slaves unfortunately, the Christians were the slaves for the most part,things didn't change much until Roman Emperor Constantine; saw a vision of a cross that said rule by this across the sky and he ended world wide persecution of Christians after the worst treatment Imaginable had been taking place for centuries Constantanople was founded by Constantine in the 4th century, and became Istanbul in the 15th century when it fell to the Muslims.

Yes, slavery was practiced by the Roman empire up until its collapse, b/c the prisoners of war were sold into slavery.

Yes. Nothing specific in the Bible against slavery, you know.
St Paul sent back an escaped slave.
It was economic factors that caused slavery to die out.
