i have the cable that came with the ipod and i erased my hard drive as well as my music so i need to transfer the music from my ipod to my itunes liabary using itunes.

The iTunes will aks if you want to change libraries, so if there's a blank library, click YES. Then it will upload the songs into that library. You may need to download a library at Apple.com if you don't have a library.

Important to copy the music outside of iTunes!

I would close iTunes, then look for the ipod as a hard drive (like a D: or E: drive).

Then copy the files back to your C: drive into your music folder.

When you get your new pc and iTunes set up, in iTunes to an import or "File" "Add Folder to Library", and you're all set!
