because a lot of people are ignorant and associate living in a trailer with being poor/dirty and they look down on people who don't have money

It's easier to classify people if they live in a ghetto, to say it's their own fault, their bad. Their removed and not seen as a threat. Poverty is a symptom of societies failures that no one wants to look at. People owning their own trailer threatens the assumption that those living in homes, are superior. Trailer owners are closer to competing. The superiority of some home owners is slight or non-existent so they have an animal fear of losing their position. The don't realize that more animal behavior is counter-productive and that they need to hustle their brain instead even if it's getting late for that. The old rich and the poor are not in competition and get along better.

I think they're mixing up people living in trailers and "Trailer Trash".

Some people live in trailers, keep their place decent looking, their yard mowed, have a good relationship with their neighbors and community.

And then you have "Trailer Trash"....this is defined as those people who live in trailers, look as if they rolled out of a trash can, look as if their yard is the CITY'S dumpster, and act as if they've got nothing better to do than to complain about "the lot they've been given in life" while sitting on their bums, bringing in money from hard-working taxpayers, abusing their spouses and children (whether verbal or physical)....etc etc (I can go on all night...)

The main problem is that trailers were originally used in trailer parks, usually on wheels, and gave an air of "not staying long enough to belong"......also, many times, they were associated with "Gypsies", who were assumed to not make a positive impact on communities. Nowadays, however, more companies are making "Modular Homes" which are built on foundations or basements and, while cheaper than a normal house to own, denotes a certain air of "setting up for the long haul" and becoming a valuable part of the community.

To some people it means that residents are poor and trashy and it's ridiculous. Because SOME places are dirty and badly run it ruins the reputation of ALL of them. Quite a few elderly people retire and live in mobile homes. Some of them are actually nicer than houses! It's cheaper for one, and some trailers have a set age group (like 55 and older) and it's a close community. If I could, I'd rather live in a trailer home instead of a house.

Because the people thinks they are drug addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes, thief's or low life bastards. Some people ain't so lucky like the rich and famous so they have no choice to live like that. Don't blame these folks and don't look down upon them. What is freaking wrong with these people judging on people how they live, sleep or eat. I believe no one is above the law or more powerful than god. Only ignorant people visualize things like that. You can call these people no common sense or social skills at all.

The old song says, "Everybody needs somebody who they can look down on".
Mobile homes have come a long way from the day the stereotype was born, but people have to be mean to someone and its not cool to be mean to minorities. Its cool to be mean to white people though and folks have the mistaken idea that only white people live in mobile home communities.

Mobile homes are often so fancy that you forget you're in one.

Its just another prejudice... I know people that live in a trailer in a park on a lot and this trailer park is everything stereotypical... like the people ARE inbred, and there is this one 38 year old woman that ... well she's nasty. But I have been out to nice trailer parks too, although I still refuse to live in one.

Well, it is fine unless you at least want to live in a structure with a basement so your whole house and everything you own doesn't blow away in a 50-mile-per-hour wind.

Anyway, other reasons are that they're generally poor, uneducated, and live like slobs. But I agree that I've seen a few nice trailers in my life. It's just that if I had the money, I'd rather live in a shacky apartment than a trailer. I'd feel like people were all invading my space in a trailer park, and you probably couldn't walk through it at night.

There are apartments that have living accommodations that aren't so ghetto/trashy. I don't see the point of living in a trailer/ trailer park.
