The universe has a finite age. Just before the big bang, the universe was nothing but condensed space. To all effect and appearance, it didn't exist. Then it burst forth and in a few seconds, all the forces came into being. The question remains if it has sufficient mass to continue expanding or will it begin to collapse.

The JWST telescope, to be launched in 2013, is expected to capture images of the first galaxies to form after the Big Bang.
With that information, the age, (beginning), of the universe can be calculated.

Always refers to all of time. Time began at the same moment as the universe; therefore the universe always existed.
