This is very frustrating..because my boyfriend whom I haven't seen in 2 months is arriving on monday. I'm not supposed to start my period until friday, so I thought we'd have a few good days, if you know what I mean. I don't know if it's my period though, it has turned from the brown colour to red, but very light. So I'm really hoping it will stop. Does "break-through blood" mean I will have my full period or is it just a small amount of blood that will stop quickly? Thanks in advance.

If you stop taking the placebos at the last week of your current pack and start on the new pack you should not end up having a period this month, but you might start a couple of days early next month... I have done this to skip periods while on vacation or for other "special occasions" in the past.

Hey there! I am an emergency room RN, and I have some personal experience with this kind of thing as well.

If you have been on pills for awhile, you might have altered your own ability to control your levels of progesterone and estrogen. You might be one of those people who can miss one pill and your body thinks it is time to shed the lining of your uterus, assuming that you are not pregnant. It is all a horomonal based cycle, your body waits for the levels to alter, then things swing into motion. Double your next dose, if this is what you have been instructed by your doctor to do when you miss a pill, and the bleeding should stop. You probably didn't have time to ovulate yet, but I would recommend added protection unless you want to conceive a child at this time.

Good luck to you!

Be blessed.

If you discuss this with your doctor the reply would be that you will not have a period as long as you stay on the pill. The 5 pills at the end are for physiological purposes. Most women are assured that everything is normal as long as they have "Time Off". Depending on your body your periods may vary. Some women must stay on the pill to regulate heavy tides even if they have had their tubes tied.

I don't know if you can get your period, but maybe you should be more concerned about whether you can get pregnant when you don't take your pills the way they should be taken. If the blood has a really red color to it, it is doubtful that it will stop. "Break-through bleeding" usually refers to spotting between periods, or during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Yes, break through is typically just a small amount that stops quickly.

And FYI, if you want to delay your period, just skip the "blank" pills and go right to the next packet. It is perfectly okay to do that and skip a period for the month.

Missing taking the pill by a few hours will not disturb the effectiveness of the pill. Once you hit 2 days then you are in trouble. It is prob just breakthrough bleeding. Hope it's over in time...good luck!
