It does not mean jack. For one thing, no one knows that the magnetic reversal will occur in 2012. In fact, other that knowing that it happens relatively quickly, we do not have precise knowledge of its onset or cycle to completion. In any event, the reversal, if and when it comes, will have no tragic consequences.

The Mayan calendar had to end sometime and the year 2012 has no meaning at all. It is especially ridiculous for the Christian end-times idiots to apply the Mayan system to the folktales and mythology of a bunch of illiterate Semitic goat herders who lived on the other side of the world and earlier than the widespread development and expansion of Classic Period Mayan civilization. The Mayans never heard of Jesus and Jesus never heard of them or knew about them.

Why don’t you ask this question to all the lunatics who think judgment day is coming in 2012 – ask them to put their money where their mouths are, and wager their money against those who say it will not happen. I’ll wager that you cannot find one of them who really takes their faith seriously enough to bet their money on it – even though it seems this would be something of a disappointment in the eyes of their fictitious god.

Another pile of bull ___. The world has been ending since man first learned to walk upright and make up stuff like the gods are all powerful, and that the world will end tomorrow. I finally dumped christianity back in 1975, after some nut evangelist said how evil Bewitched, the TV show was (my favorite show!) and that the world was going to end in 1982.. Didn't happen, know one knows when the world will come to an end, but most likely it won't be for several billion years. Maybe by then we'll have dumped all of this mythology and religion bull.

Nothing.

After all, many scholars who have studied the Mayan culture agree that it was just the ending of the calendar they'd written up, but nothing says it's the end of the WORLD.

As far as the magnetic poles shifting, it's happened before. No biggie.

and just another add-in....the Apocalypse isn't coming either.

So I guess my answer is......nothing. I'm doing nothing....except trying to raise my daughter to be as good a person as she can be. After all, we all die someday, and IF I'm wrong, it was just time to go. But if you're asking if I'm stockpiling water and food and trying to find a good hole to crawl into, no, on January 2013, I'll be sitting around waiting for the NEXT calendar date to pop up.

??? I believe it's a slower process than that (if it is happening now, which I hadn't heard).

I don't know what you think it means, but there's nothing to prepare for.

The magnetic poles have switched back and forth quite a few times.

Doesn't "mean" a thing.

I'm preparing for it by renovating a motorcycle. I want to ride it to Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary of that battle in the following year.

That's five years. I don't think anything dramatic will come of it but I do believe the western US is becoming warmer.

I made a nice, solid, pinewood casket. I practice laying in it sometimes.
