Obviously "war on terrorism" is the correct phrase. Terror is an emotion that can be brought on by lots of causes. Terrorism describes violent attacks on the innocent.....which is the war against?
The pres just likes to think he's talking fancy.

It's the War on Terror. And it's that way because that is how President Bush coined the term.

I think war on terrorism, which is the act of inflicting terror on people. A war on terror would encompass all the horror films, wild beasts, street gangs..etc. including anything else that ever terrorised anyone.

terrorism is what they are fighting (or claim to) - but the "War on Terror" is the correct term because its really a label/title to rally around. Usage of the word Terror because they think it is "scary"

Either one is correct. We are trying to fight "terror", which is caused by purposeful acts of terrorism. Terror is the result of acts of terrorism. People will understand you either way. The purpose is to communicate, and you communicate with either term.
