rectangle P=2(X+W)
80=2(X+W)
X+W=40( divided 2 both side)
subtract X both sides
W=40-X
but the Area of rectangle is A=length*width
answer is A=X*(40-X)
or A=40X-X^2
which X=length, W=width, P=perimeter, A=area

So if the length is x, that means the two sides in the length dimension use ... 2 x yards of fencing.
The other two sides then use 2 y.
