You can start now if you want to. Buy a little at a time and you're not bombarded toward the end of your pregnancy. Since you don't know the sex, buy general things like onesies (white, light green, yellow, etc), bottles if using them, bibs, blankets, socks, etc. Also toys that aren't geared toward boys or girls such as stuffed animals, books, development toys. Also, crib monitors, baby-proofing items, etc. Have fun with it! You don't have to know the sex to buy things. Congratulations! =)

I say that spreading out costs is probably a good idea. Go ahead and start looking for items are not gender specific. My sister in law really wanted to make sure she was 'for sure' pregnant and didn't buy things until 8 months. However things like the crib, the glider and even the stroller she wanted needed to be ordered. The crib came 3 weeks after the baby was born and the glider 2 months so I say go ahead and get things that need to be ordered or that need to be shipped/customized.
Congratulations!!!

You can start buying small thing that are unisex. I am pregnant with my second child 6 weeks. We are buying things as we find them and the money. But I still have a lot of the clothes and things from my daughter (and some cute boy clothes that i had bought for her). This time we are not going to find out the sex. I promised my fiance that I would wait. With my daughter I wanted to know NOW because everyone was trying to help with clothes and bedding. But I said I will keep my promise this time.

You should start whenever you like - there are a lot of things you can start buying now to spread the cost out even if you dont know the sex such as wraps, bibs, nappies, pacifiers.
If you buy it bit by bit you wont feel as though you are spending as much. I am nearly 38 weeks and still think of things that i have to run out and get
best wishes to you

I would start with the major stuff like Crib...Furniture...Bassinet...
Diper Pail....
Start early because the time will fly by quick! Most stuff gender isn't too big of a factor. Clothing and the finishing touches are really the little stuff. And if you have a shower everyone will buy you tons of gender specific stuff.
This is what worked for me...But I like to be prepared.
If you havent registered somewhere go for it!!
It really helped me because I could get a good idea of the things I needed...
Good Luck!!

I started buying little things here and there around 18 weeks. Someone loaned me a crib and I bought a bedding set because it was on sale. Everything I have been buying is green and yellow... even though I know I'm having a girl now. I don't trust the ultrasound and like green and yellow anyways.

i just bought a few basic things in the colors white, light green or yellow until i learned the sex.
things like socks, onezees, footed sleepers or long sleepers without the feet, burp clothes and receiving blankets. you will go through a TON of the basic stuff like the sleepers etc. when they spit up so a good dozen or so is a good start.
color really doesn't matter when your at home. so save those cute outfits for when your out and about with the baby and want to "show off" the little one (as we all do!).

I wouldn't worry about things too much, this early. Just relax and take it easy, stress is not good for babies. Just worry about problems when you get to them. If you do do some shopping, you can just get the basic, gender independent stuff, like a carrier, blankets, diapers, etc, etc.... Try shopping at maternity and baby thrift stores, instead of buying new or name brand "stuff" which will just be clutter in a few years. Besides, babies can't read the labels on their things anyway.....

I'd wait for gender specific things until you are sure about the gender. I know gender tests and ultrasounds have come a long way in the past couple of years, but from what I recall, gender determination wasn't 100% accurate until the baby was born. Certain objects which aren't gender specific (baby bottles, cribs, towels, toys) could certainly be purchased.

At 20 weeks is when I found out the gender of my baby and that is when I really started buying stuff. However if you are planning to have a baby shower you might want to hold off because you might get alot of stuff there that you don't need to buy.
