I was told I could take a bath right away. I would steer clear of bubble baths and stuff. But the way my Dr. put it to me was "the vagina is pretty much water-tight". If you have any kind of doubts I'm sure you could just call your OB's office and a nurse could set your mind at ease.
Good luck, congratulations and enjoy the new baby! Oh and I also had stiches.

This is an excerpt from the site I linked below:
"F. Baths and Showers
1. You may shower as necessary but DO NOT take a tub bath for at least 3 days unless otherwise instructed by OB care provider. DO NOT use bubble bath or oils in bath water.
2. Warm showers may help to relieve the discomfort of breast engorgement.
3. DO NOT USE DOUCHES. They can cause trauma; possible infection. "

you don't have to wait anytime. I took a bath as soon as I could move (stitches and all!) to help relax my muscles. Unless your dr directed you otherwise, a bath feels great. Go take one and relax. :)
edit: hmm, interesting. I never heard the 3 day rule. I gave birth vaginally, had stitches, and it was the nurses' idea that I take a bath that same afternoon. I guess it just depends on individual cases?

If it was a normal vaginal delivery, 1 week you are clear. I bathed (with stitches after baby #1 2 days after delivery. Before that I showered. Just keep resting when the baby rests. Seriously. Wish I had.

um, if you gave vaginal birth, you could have taken a bath the day you gave birth or day after. I had my son in the afternoon and took a shower that night, I had my daughter at 3 30 in the morning and took a shower the next day...

You can take a bath when your comfortable with getting in and out of the tub. Even if you had stitches it would just help with the uncomfortableness of them.
