Engines are connected to the frame (chassis) of a car with "motor mounts", to help offset the torque created when you accelerate. Many have them on both "sides" of the engine, and newer ones have an upper mount as well, on the top of the engine...while not too difficult to change out, it does require reasonable mechanical ability, and often some equipment to support the engine during the change.

a motor mount is a bracket that bolts to the motor on one end and the cars frame on the other end and it keeps the motor from moving when you accelerate. most motor mounts are not that expensive and depending on the type of car some are not that hard to install but on the other hand some are very hard to install and will require a fair amount of mechanical expertise.over all it is not too much of a problem as far as cars go in general.

a motor mount is what attaches your engine block to the frame. It can vary alot of how much depending on foreign or domestic car, and the year to. In my opinion I would replace them both while your at it( if you get the vehicle). On my 75 chevy truck I had a broke one and while I had the whole thing loose I just replaced the other side to.

A rubber cushion on the side of your engine that absorbs vibration.
There are 2 on any engine and as high as 4 on some.
Also there is a transmission mount on the tail shaft of the transmission for the same reason.
$30 - $300 guesstimate some are easy some are VERY HARD! Parts and labor.

this is what the engine mounts to it holds it up in the chassis....they usually rubber so it lessens vibration.....fixing it is not easy because the motor has to be lifted up a few inches to slide the new mount in.

http://www.robin-industries.com/Image%20Pages/Products/Motor_Mount.jpg shows a typical motor mount. It bolts to the frame, and the engine rests on it and is bolted down to it to hold the engine in place. there are typically 4 of them, and the cost would depend on which was bad, and what vehicle it is on.

My friend has virtually the same thing with his car. You might try to buy a large bottle of TECHRON at Chevron. It's about $10.00/bottle. Add it to an empty tank, refill, and don't refill until nearly empty. It can smoothen out a rough running engine sometimes. Good Luck!
