If it sounds like the Beatles, even remotely, the lineup was probably

Syd Barrett- Vocals, guitar
Roger Waters- Vocals, bass
Rick Wright- Some vocals, keyboards
Nick Mason- Drums

Notable Albums (aka what I can think of)
Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Saucerful of Secrets
Relics (not released at the time of Syd, but a lot of his songs)

Syd went crazy from LSD, so Roger forced him out of the band and replaced him with David Gilmour, who is a guitar god.

Most of their best known work was done with the Waters-Gilmour-Wright-Mason lineup.

Albums (in no particular order):
Meddle
Atom Heart Mother
The Wall
Animals
Dark Side of the Moon
Obscured by Clouds
Wish You Were Here

Then Roger kicked Rick out. Prick.

Albums (100% complete list in order of release date, album sales, critics' rating, and my rating):
The Final Cut

Then Roger wimped out and David and Nick brought back Rick.

Albums (no order, not complete):

Momentary Lapse of Reason
The Division Bell
Delicate Sound of Thunder

That's pretty much all you need to know if you're not going to become a drooling obsesser like I am.

Started in 1962 by roger waters and Syd Barret.
Named after a couple of Jazz musicians.
The later albums in the 70's were mainly sang by David gilmore and roger waters. But some people believe that Syd barret sang some of the vocals as well, even after he left the band in 1968.
