There are more and more people in the U. S. who speak Spanish, and it seems that they are reluctant to learn English. But then why should they bother to learn English, if they will be accommodated with someone who speaks Spanish.
I have noticed that people who speak French, German, Russian, etc. are far more prone to attempting to learn English, as opposed to Spanish speaking who want to live here, enjoy all the benefits, but won't bother to learn the language.

Is it a real requirement or is it an asset to getting the job? Does the job deal with an abundance of Spanish speaking people? The Spanish speaking community is the fastest growing minority in America today. However if it is a business that wants to make MONEY these days it is smart to have a couple of people who are bilingual. Spanish should not be required, but it would be a smart move. These days a company needs a couple people who speak English, Spanish, Arabic, and French, etc...we gotta know what folks are talking about!

I think everyone in the U.S. should speak English. I live in an apartment where all the people speak spanish and the maintanence men doen't speak or understand English. It is almost impossible to get anything fixed right since they can't understand what I am telling them. I believe that if we have to accomadate spanish speaking people, then we should accomadate everyone. Send home those school notes in English, Spanish, and German, Japanese, Chinese, French, and on and on.

Well if the job requires you to know Spanish and you don't then, by definition, you are not totally qualified for the job.
Employers are not requiring us to learn those other languages because we don't have a lot of speakers of those languages immigrating here.

No it really isn't because this is "America" and those immigrants should learn ENGLISH! And I've noticed that it is only the Hispanic immigrants who are lazy and want everything to be handed to them. Every other immigrant at least tries to learn some English.

well for starters if you look at a history book you will see that not even a hundred years ago a certain President decided that he want to steal land from Mexico , fully one third of the US was aquired in this manner , when you ask people where the Alamo is the real answer should be Mexico , I really dont blame them for wanting back a little of what was taken from them with no provocation

Employers need what they need. If they need someone who can speak Spanish and you don't fit that requirement, you are NOT qualified for the job. It's that simple.
If my clientele speaks Spanish and you can't, WHY would I hire you?
