Start playing with 6 not 9's. Easier and less to count. The first person puts down a tile (say 6 and 3). The next person has to match one of the ends. The first double becomes the spin, meaning it and only it has four ends. Each person puts down a tile to match one of the ends until someone is out of tiles.
When the active ends total an increment of 5 the person or team gets that many points.
If a person cannot place a tile in their hand, they have to draw until they can.
You learn to know what tiles are left, e g matches. There is the 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 1-1, 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, 2-6 etc until you reach 6-6
It really is not hard. Go to social and watch a game, letting the people know you are learning. Always remember to ask to KITBIZ/watch their hands.

Stand them on end, line them up fairly close to one another, then, tip the first one into the second one, and watch them fall!
