interestingly that hasn't always been the case. ancient cultures in various places around the world held women in very high esteem. They generally had the best social skills, and of course were the life givers.
Why that semeed to devolve in modern societies... perhaps various social and technological developments allowed for conditions to arise where men could impose dominance based on physical prowess.
I think things are swinging back in the other direction, at least in most first world countries... as it should.

It depends on far back in history you go, and which culture you investigate. For thousands of years only female goddesses were worshipped, since only women had the power to give birth. Women were revered and were leaders in many societies. Even though women were revered, it seems that men were still highly valued as well.
On the other hand, the most recent turn of events against women was when Christian men made sure their Christian holidays were performed on the same days as the pagan goddess holidays were celebrated, since they couldn't compete with them. The Christians spent hundreds of years denigrating women and the evils of pagan followers. They did their darndest to instill patriarchy (the superiority of men) through religion, politics, laws, marriage, and education (or lack thereof for girls and women). They were and still are very effective. They've convinced women and men alike that not only is patriarchy "ordained", but this is the way it's "always been".
It's a very sad state of affairs to teach any group of people they are totally superior in every way, and another group of people are totally inferior, in every way; whether we're talking about gender, race, or religion.

Because Eve ( the first woman) was thought to be the downfall of Adam ( the first man). It was Eve that convinced Adam to eat from the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden, after listening to the Serpent ( Satan).
After God found out what happened, both were banished from Paradise. This is my theory on why men throughout history have treated women as they do. Men have used this story to justify the subordination of women.

I really think there is entirely too much physcho babble B.S on this thread and subject. The answer is simple. Men's physicolgical make up make them more prone to being aggressive (hunters). Men have been the primary force behind waging wars. Thier actual genetic and chemical make up proves this. Christianity does not teach that men are "superior" to women but, men (being human) have distorted Christian teachings to mean exactly that. Christianity teaches that we are to lift up our wives and respect them and honor them. Christianity also teaches that men are the leader's of thier families (patriarch) but this should never be interpreted to be a tyrant type relationship but too many men have perverted this to try to dominate women. This is wrong, but you can't blame christianity. You have to blame humans. The problem being that the sex that interpreted this doctrine happen to also be the sex that was physcially stronger.

because women stayed home to care for the baby and men were out to make a living for the family, then men made laws that were just for their own benefits and women didn't have a voice that's the way everything started.

Back then 13 yr old girls married 30 yr old men. They were too young, brainwashed into believing they were worthless, uneducated, suppressed, and frightened to do anything. Also any woman who did speak up were considered witches that worshiped satan.

Because of Christian beliefs that women don't have souls and go straight to Hell for men getting kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Also because women weren't good for nothing except make babies back then.

Jesus Christ it's over now so stop making a big deal out of it.
Maybe it works both ways like the first guy who answered said or maybe it's because women didn't try to do anything.

Women were a fixture in the home, like funriture or utensils. They had to have skills to attract men to take care of them. Dogs and domestic pets did the same thing. Men did the hunting and gathering and made the choices.

Why have women treated men like crap throughout history? It works both ways.
Like most women, you simply regurgitate garbage you hear without doing any real investigating into the matter. You don't know what you are talking about.
