Betta fish can usually live with many other kinds of fish, not including fellow bettas. It does depend on the individual betta though. Have a backup plan if your other fish get beat up.

Fish in a tank with a betta should have a place to hide, and they should not have flowing, nippable fins. They should also not be aggressive fin biters themselves, so that your betta is not injured.

the key to successful betta mixing is good tank design. everyone should have enough space of their own and enough plants and decorations to hang out in that everyone is happy. in 10 gallons having 3 or 4 silk plants that reach the top of the water and a couple caves and you are set for just about any community fish and a betta. what you don't want to do is put everyone in an overcrowded tank with nothing but fish in it and expect everyone to be happy. it would be kind of like having a party in a room with no furniture. nobody can sit down and get comfortable so they get irratable. your party guests would proabably leave but the fish are stuck with each other.

Yes, this is completely true. Bettas can live with any fish that doesn't have long , wavy fins. (because they attack any fish that looks like them)

Yes, no problem at all. Just be sure you only have one betta in the tank though. Be sure to give your betta some places to hide near the top of the tank to feel safe.

betta fish will tolerate all others except another male betta...the problem with other fish is that you have to keep the betta away from other fish who will nip at his long fins....gouramis will also attack bettas
