Hey, in California, how old do I have to be to buy movie tickets to an R-rated movie for me and my cousins?

I'm 18 but my cousins are 16. Can I buy them tickets? Or do I have to be older?

Theaters can sell as many tickets as the consumer wants to buy to an R rated movie as long as the consumer is 21 years and older. But if you are only 21 years or younger you can only buy one ticket for yourself. By law the parent is supposed to go into the theater to accompany the minor and watch the movie with them but now a days R rated movies are what children deal with in real life so it's up to the parent and how strict they are with what their children watch.

Don't get yourself in hot water by buying R rated tickets for a 16 years old.

You can buy them, but you probably shouldn't. Let their parents buy their tickets. They should be monitoring what their children watch.
