I have seen this guy around school. When I first walked passed him, I noticed at the corner of my eye that he was staring at me (my face, to be exact.) I looked back at him, and he did not avert his gaze. A couple of days later, I was walking with my friend and telling her about him, then suddenly, he walked passed us! My friend said, "THAT'S HIM?!" sort of loudly, so I'm guessing he probably heard us.

And now, whenever we walk pass each other, I noticed that he'd look straight ahead, then when we're a foot from each other, he'd glance at me for a couple of seconds, then look away. (I saw this at the corner of my eye)

Does he think I like and stalk him? (which I don't!)
Does he think I'm attractive?
What exactly is he thinking?
Next time, should I maintain eye contact and smile?

We don't know each other at all, if that helps.

Maybe he wants you to make the first move. Ask him a simple question and see what happens. If he likes you he'll continue talking. If not he'll answer the question and walk away.

Well, guys aren't usually that good at this sort of thing.

I think he may have been "on the hunt" for you (in a nice way, not sicko), but now he thinks you've noticed, before he was ready ("That's him?!"), and you've thrown off his timing, his plan.

Either he'll come back to it after chilling for a while or he'll drift off. If you want to take some control, either give him some definite but causal sign (like eye contact and a simple smile) or just walk up to him and try and defuse the tension a little by acknowledging it. He'll handle one or the other or end up walking - either way, you've been straight about it.

I know that when i see a girl i like, if i realize that she realized that i was looking at her then i would stare straight ahead and pretend not to notice her. Then when out of view i would look back, i dont know i guess its because i am shy, but if i were you i would ask him out on atleast an informal lunch date or something to try and figure him out some more.

Honestly, he was probably checking you out. He most likely is shy about talking to you and being pointed out probably scared him a bit. Honestly, its a lot harder for us guys to ask women out than you probably think. If you are interested, smooth things over by saying "hello," or even just flashing him a friendly smile. A little polite conversation wouldn't hurt either.

Yea, I like slipstream's answer. The guy's probably self-conscious now. Give him a chance to take care of his ego by leaving a book behind and see if he picks it up for you or something. We want to be needed. :-) (you guys want to be wanted. :-)
