I've heard of instances where employees were fired for emailing rumors, negative comments and other inappropriate messages regarding their superiors and employers to other employees. Do most organizations, nowadays, allow superiors to read their subordinates' email messages? What are the legal consequences of the employer if the fired subordinate discovers that his/her superior(s) were reading his/her emails?

Yes I know because we are routeenly notified that we should have no expectation of privacy in our emails. It goes without saying if they are paying for the system thay have a resopnsability to monitor it.

If you are using the company's computers, you do not have rights to privacy on them. The company can choose to monitor any or all emails sent or web pages viewed on their computers. One, they are paying you to do your job, not send personal emails or view web sites unless related to your job. Second, everytime you connect to the internet, you are opening their company files up to hackers, worms, and other corruption. If it's job related, they have to take that risk. If it's personal use, they don't have to stand for it.

your employer owns the email system and has every right to read your emails. There is no such thing as personal emails using your work email systems.
