The design of the book is absolutely the only difference. It's reformatted to look like other adult novels, but the content is indentical. J.K Rowling wouldn't write two seperate versions of the story (that would take ages and subsequent books wouldn't make sense), and it's not as though she originally wrote it for adults, and then censored the dirty bits... If the content were different, it would have had to be added in afterwards, and that definitely did not happen. It's all to save adults the embarrassment of admitting they're reading a children's book about a special wizard school (even if it is awesome).
The only difference between any editions are the American version and English/Canadian version of the first one. It was originally supposed to be "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", but for the American market it was renamed "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", and the corresponding changes appear in the book.

There is no difference between them except the cover art and very basic page formating.
You know like the text is probably bigger in the kids edition and smaller spaces between the lines in the adult novels.
It was just somebodies idea that because adults read them anyway they shouldn't be ashamed to be seen reading a children's novel.

I believe that it is the difference of the number of pages in the hard cover editions and the depth of details in each volume.
