Along the same sorta fantasy can be dark string, one of my favorites is To Catch a Thief by Mercedes Lackey. Another is the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. Also, the witches of eileannan series by kate Forsyth.
I wouldn't give any of them as kids books, though the abhorsen books are listed under young adult.
To catch a thief is one of the few books I've ever liked without a strong female lead, more yet, it only has one female character that's important to the plot and that character's a horse.
frankly, I never go through the His Dark Materials books. I don't know why, just a lot of the time I don't like popular novels.

I thought those were excellent. Since you did too, you might also enjoy Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series (best of all, there's a TON of them - start with Arrows for the Queen), Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series; Garth Nix's Sabriel, Liriel, and Abhorsen, Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword and The Hero and The Crown, and Tamora Pierce's Alanna (and the many succeeding trilogies). A lot of these are listed as young adult, but only because they are fantasy genre without a lot of explicit sex, language and violence. Robin McKinley's Sunshine, which is also excellent, is more modern and has some sexual content, so it's put in the adult section. It would be more appropriate to have them in both sections, but that's harder for the store to track, so they don't.

those 3 were pretty good, but they did feel a bit drawn out.
i don't know what kind of books you like, but my suggestions for the fantasy genre are books by Garth Nix, Elaine Cunningham, Terry Pratchett, and if you want comedy as well try Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. they were excellent.
i haven't gotten a chance to read a lot so i don't know any others who were very good.

They have been very nicely. no longer the main suitable books i've got ever examine, yet nicely worth analyzing as quickly as, surprisingly with all the debate relating to the action picture. It facilitates to envision the books and comprehend the matters greater efficient than in case you purely see the action picture. As to the terminology, "His darkish components" is the trilogy, you're appropriate on that. "Northern lights fixtures" is the call while that's printed in super Britain, and "Golden Compass" is the U.S. call of the e book and the call of the action picture. I observed some human beings answering who did no longer seem fairly specific of what call is going to what.
