I think it was a little selfish of him to come out to you, and then ask you to keep a secret from mutual friends. You ought to tell him that it puts you in an awkward position. What if you spill the beans one day, after a beer or two? Let him know that you will do your best, but he better come out soon or you may say something by mistake. Unless any of your mates is a hot-head, or violent, in which case the answer is very different.

Dude, if he's a good friend you've known for years, him coming out to you ... you should be honored. Do not let him down, and especially do not betray his wishes, because nobody likes a traitor.
There's a group in America called PFLAG: Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays. There's probably a chapter in your part of the world. Contact them and learn how to deal from others who have been there before you.

Perhaps he just wants to let the other friends know at at a pace that he feels comfortable with. He might be concerned they may not be as accepting as you.
If he wants to tell the other friends, let him, don't do it yourself.
Just forget he told you, treat him the same as you always have.
Also, don't make assumptions about what he would or wouldn't like to do because you think it is something a gay guy wouldn't want to do, such as going to a sports event ect.

Dude, you sound like a sincere bloke. Your mate believes you're a cool dude. Honest, trustworthy and sincere. Prove him right. Keep the secret.

He's not any different a person that before he told you. He must have thought a lot of you to tell you alone...respect his request for privacy...let him tell them in his own time.

Respect his wishes. He will tell when he is ready. You are a good friend if he trusted you with this news.
