Sadly neglect has not that many laws as an "Animal Planet" junkie would be led to believe. A dog can have mange & have cows get out & get hit by cars & no animal control officer in many small towns I have met with are enthusiastic about pursuing these as criminal acts.
One should still have the right to shoot a pet..I mean if has been run over & be suffering extremely (guts smushed, know hes gone). But yes there should be harsh laws on people who feed cats glass and level of psycho one would have to be to do that.
Sure do need more laws dependent on the level of of psycho act one commits.

There are laws about animal abuse. If you know of someone who is abusing animals, please contact your local Humane Society so they can check the person out.
I used to manage a dog pound and was a volunteer with the Humane Society. We went on many instances of reports of animal abuse. We would give out warnings or take the animals away. If the abuse is very bad, the people will be charged in a court of law, given sentences, and have to pay a fine.

There is a law on animal abuse. Abusing an animal is punishable in every state in the country. There are certain severities of punishment, depending on the severity of the abuse. Thank God for the laws, because some people truly don't know how to treat animals.

You guys are all stupid, animal abuse is only legal in states with less than 4 letters in their name. In every other state it happens to be illegal. It is a shame that I only get to watch a good legal dog fight when I have a chance to travel to one of those states where that sort of stuff is legal. Here is a story, on February the seventh some politically correct moron decided they would go ahead and request laws against animal abuse. Thank you, I am sure nobody here would have known what to do without your question and all the fabulous answers we got with it. PETA is meeting in Texas on the 23, they like to meet in Texas because they have those fabulous laws that outlaw dog fights... not many other states have that.
"They have a law on people abuse so there should be one on animal abuse!"
Check the laws, you can mistreat a cat and get a felony... IN EVERY STATE! You can beat your wife and get a misdemeanor. Who has more rights?
Thanks for your time, glad I could help.

There are laws on animal abuse & neglect; it depends entirely upon which state, county or city/town you live in. Check with your local SPCA or law enforcement, not the Humane Society or PETA, both of which are animal rights organizations, not animal care facilities & are not affiliated with your local shelters in any way! In many cities, depending on their geographic location, there are several laws on the books that address animal issues (dogs, cats, horses, wildlife etc) such as; dangerous & vicious dogs, injured animals, neglected & sick animals, abandoned animals and so forth..most truly caring organizations do their very best to track down these irresponsible people & bring them to justice...it can be a frustrating & thankless job for the people who really do care about animals.

There are laws against animal cruelty, the problem is the fines and punishments aren't hard enough. You will get life in prison for killing a person, but only a couple hundred dollar fine for killing a dog.
If the lawmakers make the punishments more severe people won't do it as much.

Many states have cruelty to animal laws. Sometimes they forget certain groups of animals like horses or birds. Check what laws exist in your state. Have a nice day.

Most states do but I watch animal cops and they might totally hurt animals and get away with a pitty charge as a find for $500.
