I was dumped by my boyfriend of 8 years just about 2 weeks ago. So not only do I have to deal with the pain and hurt of that but now everywhere I go I see reminders of the fact that I'm alone in a world that seems to be filled with couples. Right now I'm hating the holiday because the last thing that those of us who are alone need is to be reminded of that fact.
But even when I was in my relationship I still never liked the holiday. You don't need a special occasion to do something nice for somebody else. To people in love (or who think they're in love) buying a valentine gift is a chore instead of a pleasure. It's something you feel like you have to do. And if love feels like a duty instead of a joy then it is never a good thing. It would be much better to come home and find a romantic dinner "just because I love you" instead of "because it's Feb. 14th".

See its like people who hate Christmas or Mother's day, when you have to watch happy people and your not happy yourself, or maybe you just have no place in that holiday, i.e. not a Christian, not a mother, not in a relationship, you are jealous, you are slightly bitter. But with that said, I also think part of the problem is people are broker today, I mean maybe the Vday goodies are just more expensive, but whatever the economic reason, its why as a parent I am starting to dread Christmas; I just can't afford all I want to give, and there seems to be a standard of giving too, that seems unreachable at times. Literally, every year I feel like I just pull it off. Valentines day, we feel like I'll bake him a banana cake, he will cook me a real nice dinner (I'm pregnant so its specially nice thought) our son will eat some candy and play with his cards, and I'll probably get lucky when he goes to bed. Maybe small token gifts will get exchanged, but thats it.
People should just appreciate eachother everyday, not just when the Hallmark says so. But its nice to have that one day at least I say!

I am not into commercialism. Valetine's Day makes me feel obligated to get a gift for my significant other, rather than it coming from my heart it's a feeling of obligation because everyone is celebrating it. For me it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day, Christmas or any other holiday to express how much I appreciate someone. Everyday is a holiday for me. :)

I always hate Valentines Day.. or say I do.. because.. it always seems to be a sad day for me, at least, since I was about 14, My first boyfriend dumped me, and my birthday is also the very next day. What made it worse, was he asked me to take the gift he had already got me.
I just always seem to feel alone on that day. (but Holidays in general are hard for me)

Shouldn't every day be like Valentine's. Why should there be one day when it should be like that everyday. For the most part Valentine's Day is just lining the pockets of companies, it's the only time I know that roses are double in price.

of people are single, lonely,or in bad relationships, etc. It's many different reasons why people dislike this holiday, but look around at all of the people that actually have a good time on that day, because it's still plenty of love out there.

I have a friend that got a divorice and she hates Valentine's day. Maybe because they might lost a person they loved and just don't like it anymore. Also she asked me if Walmart sold black wreaths.

i cant stand v day. im not single or anything, im actually in love, so its not like i hate it becuase i have no one, its just so pointless. my boyfriend and i dont need a day to show affection, we do that everyday. i hate feeling as tho i HAVE to buy and recieve gifts for people, its so....forced and insincere. id much rather receive roses for no reason you know? v day is just a commercial holiday made for card and candy companies.
