well in a box of chocolates there are different kinds and flavours that when you take one and bite it, you just never know what flavour it is until you taste it.
the newer boxes of chocolates have a list of what each kind is now but i guess before they didnt so it was just a matter of choosing.

My interpretation: A box of chocolates has a variety, there are coconut inside, or vanilla, or nuts. You never know what flavor is inside that little chocolate. Thus it's a surprise when you bite into it. Life is full of little and big surprises. The girl next door is this ugly, braces, tomboy, that beats you up all the time. She goes away for the summer and comes back. The braces are gone, she's wearing dresses and make-up. You realize your in love. A surprise! Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get.

Mostly boxes of chocolate candies are not mapped (just like life for many of us), so when you make a choice, you don'e know if you are going to get one of the ones you like or one you don't particularly care for. Most of us will just go ahead and eat the one we choose instead of throwing it away and try again for one we like better. In life, when we make a choice we generally have to live with the results instead of just running away and trying something else (see the Jack Nickelson movie Three Easy Pieces). A way to look at choices that we might wish we had not made is the phrase "When life sticks you with lemons, make lemonaide.
