The main protagonist is an assassin for an organisation of antiwar militant pacifists who have gone beyond peaceful protest to make war on those they see as warmongers. The assassins target is a General who talks to the hero and persuades the assassin that he is wrong. The assassin walks away leaving the General alive.

I'd like to read it again as I've forgotten the arguements used by the General to dissuade the assassin. Thanks.

Sounds more like SF than Sci-Fi. Sorry I don't remember this one either.

Out of all the "thousands" of Sci-Fi short stories I've read, I can't remember one like that, sorry.
