If that is true then that is probably the reason they can't accept the views of other people and believe that every thing they say or do is right.

Such a tetchy lot are our American cousins.I only asked the question to give me some idea as to why your top man feels that he and only he knows how the rest of the world should live.

Yes something of that estimate; how do you think they are kept so wrapped up under the governments' control and it is the reason why in certain parts of America; especially republican supporting states, people are , indeed not so bright because they never explore anything else!

First of all. America is a continent, not a country. I will assume when you say Americans you mean people in the USA. I do not know if what you ask is true and I find your suppositions that all people in the USA are narrowminded insulting and biased.

Why fewer of us have passports:
The United states is a huge country surrounded by seas to the east or west. Until recently we were not required to have passports to the destinations we most commonly travel to when we leave the country, Mexico and the Carribean. Soon we will need passports to return to the USA even from these countries, so I am sure more people will have passports.

Another factor, we have the least amount of vacation in the western world. Even if you work for a company with good benefits most of us only get 2 weeks of paid vacation for the first 5 years that we work for a company. From 6 to 10 years we get 3 and so on and so on. The reality is most of us rarely get to a point where we get a substantial amount of vacation because we change companies quite often. When you have so little time most of it gets saved for holidays that you spend with your family. Also when you have such a limited amount of vacation time, assuming you can afford to travel abroad, its hard to do so when such travel requires you spend a day or two at least traveling. Not a good use of very limited time, especially when there is so much to see and do in your own backyard.

Finally, the very diversity of this country shows that we have the ability to accept other people's views and I highly doubt that all 300+ million of us in the USA are as narrowminded as you contend. People from all corners of the earth make thier home here. I wont say there are not problems but we do not have issues that other nations do.

Compare the USA to say Europe where many countries are having arguments about muslim women covering as they feel thier religions requries. While there has been controversies in the USA about what women wearing such coverings when they take photos for identification, noone is saying girls cant wear hijabs to school or in government jobs. Why? Because we respect freedom of religion and personal choice. Now I may not agree with why Muslim women wear these coverings but I would never ever ask a woman to take them off because I do not agree with thier beliefs. And I think many people in the USA would protest such laws.

You simply have a bias against us and are seeking reasons to justify it. Nothing more and nothing less. Get over it, its a waste of precious energy.

I don't know whether the statistic is true or not, but why should people have passports they don't need?

Not all Americans can afford to travel to other countries, and with the size and variety of North America (you don't need a passport to go to Canada or Mexico), there's a lot of places to go without one.

Not all Americans are as you describe, but the reason many are isn't because of lack of travel. People can travel -- or even have passports they don't use -- without learning anything about other people, or being less arrogant.

The main reason a lot of Americans are ignorant and arrogant is the educational system -- it doesn't do a very good job of teaching our own history, or the rest of the world (or much else, for that matter).

Well it might have been true that a lot of us didnt have passports before, because there were many countries we could go to without a passport, I have been to 6 different countries, 4 of them, I didn't need a passport, but now that we have new laws, many, many, many, of us will get them. A lot of the time, the reason we don't go to many other countires, is because we dont have the time to go on vacation. If you think about it, going to another state here, is like going to another country in Europe.

I'd say it was true. Mostly because it's so expensive to travel outside of America. For europeans, it's fairly cheap to travel from country to country. For americans, it costs us upwards of 1500 dollars just for a plane ticket, let alone hotel, car rental, food, and sight seeing costs. It's cheaper for most americans to just travel around america and sometimes Canada and Mexico. I'm one of the few Americans with a passport, because I love Europe and the rest of the world. In fact I plan on moving to Denmark to go to college.

Probably! Very few Americans leave the country because it's so big, their various climates provide growth for all sorts of food and if say a New Yorker fancied a holiday, they wouldn't even have to cross the border, they could go to Florida or California, but what I don't know is if they choose to fly, would they need a passport then?

Yes, it is true. Most Americans travel only to Canada and Mexico for which they did not need passpors till this year.
A majority never leave the country and hence, do not need a passport

Yes, 80% is probably about right.

I have accepted the views of people from all over the world. I was born and raised in New York City, and spent nine years in Las Vegas--believe me there are many, many non-American bosses and co-workers in both of those places!

no, the actual figure is 90%, but then, they don't really need a passport! The USA is HUGE!!! they don;t really nede to go outside their nation, an American can live in America all their life and never see all the country!

Yes, I think 80% of Americans do not have a pass port. The rest just doesn't make any sense to me.
